Minnesota Golden Gophers win 2025 WBIT

How the WBIT works: Bracket, format and what to know

No. 2 Minnesota won the 2025 WBIT title, defeating No. 3 Belmont 75-63. The victory marks the Golden Gophers' first WBIT championship and guard Tori McKinney was named the 2025 Most Outstanding Player with a game-high of 26 points.

The win serves as redemption for Minnesota after falling short in the 2024 WBIT championship game to St. Louis.

The 2025 WBIT began on Sunday, March 16, when the 32-team field was announced. Virginia Tech, James Madison, Saint Joseph’s and Colorado received an automatic bid and the top four seeds in the WBIT as the first four teams out of the 2025 NCAA DI women's basketball tournament.

How WBIT teams are selected

The first four teams out of the NCAA DI women's basketball tournament — as determined by the DI women's basketball selection committee — receive an automatic bid into the WBIT and the first four seeds.

Regular season champions of DI conferences not otherwise selected for the NCAA DI women's basketball tournament will also automatically qualify (if eligible and not reclassifying institutions). The remaining field will be made up of at-large teams chosen by the WBIT selection committee.

First, second and quarterfinal games will be held at campus sites. Action then moves to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the semifinals and the championship.
