Georgia Tech vs. Georgia: Live updates from the Spring Baseball Classic at Truist Park
⚾️ How to follow along
No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 5 Georgia’s annual matchup at Truist Park in Atlanta, GA. won’t be televised….
But don’t worry! We’ll be in attendance to provide live updates from this exciting matchup.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs where both are ranked top 5 nationally, and for good reason. One could make an argument that either team has the strongest lineup in college baseball — both ranked top two in the country for RBIs, OPS and slugging percentage. Both teams sit atop their respective conferences in standings.
The game starts at 7 p.m. EST.
⚔️ Last year's matchup
Georgia beat Georgia Tech 5-2 in last year’s matchup at Truist Park, needing production in just two innings to get by.
Coincidentally, both the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets were monsters at the plate then. UGA was on the brink of eclipsing the 100-homer mark (98) and GT led the country in batting average (.342), hits (420), on-base % (.445) and runs-per-game (10.1).
So the low scoring affair was out of the out-of-the-ordinary for both squads, but there were flashes. Georgia scored first and early on first baseman Ryland Zaborowski’s RBI single to left and another run off a bases loaded walk. Georgia Tech third baseman Will Baker tied it up with a solo homer in the third and an RBI single to left.

The Bulldogs took back the lead, and lifted off, in the bottom half of the fourth. Center fielder Devin Obee launched one out of right field, and two batters later, shortstop Kolby Branch hit a two-run homer to left center.
That was the last bit of scoring for the game, as each team’s pitching staff shut down both lineups for the final five innings.

😤 The battle behind the plate
Georgia’s Daniel Jackson and Georgia Tech’s Vahn Lackey have been the focal points of each team’s powerful offense, both putting together historic performances so far.
Here’s a closer look at two Buster Posey Midseason Watchlist candidates:
Daniel Jackson
Jackson has been the Bulldogs’ top dog all season, leading the team in nearly every offensive category, headlined by 20 home runs, the fifth-most nationally, and 18 stolen bases.

He’s on pace to become the seventh DI player to hit 25 homers and 25 stolen bases in one season. He took home another SEC Player of the Week honor last week, hitting three home runs in the series finale against Arkansas.
He’s caught 11 players stealing.
Vahn Lackey
It’s been a breakout season for Lackey, quickly climbing up the 2026 MLB Draft rankings, hitting .361 with 12 home runs, 46 RBIs and 24 extra-base hits. He made headlines earlier this season by playing eight different positions against West Georgia and one hit shy of the cycle.
There aren’t many more complete players in the country than Lackey — the proof is in the pudding — and being able to stand out in such a strong lineup, manning the four-hole, should speak for itself.
🔥 Team Preview: Georgia Tech
No. 3 Georgia Tech has been at the top of the college baseball food chain all season, and like UGA, is led by its success at the plate.
They are the definition of ‘a tough out,’ leading the nation in batting average (.354), OPS (1.090), runs (417) and RBIs (386). To put this into context, nine players are batting over .300, even in the thick of conference play. The Yellow Jackets have scored 10 or more runs in 27 of their 39 contests.
Although they fell to then-No. 6 North Carolina this past weekend, 2-1, they still sit atop the ACC in standings at 16-5 and 32-7 overall. It is their best start to a season since 2010.
Their biggest wins have come in conference play, sweeping then-No. 5 Florida State, beating then-No. 8 Clemson and taking down then-No. 14 NC State.
🐶 Team Preview: Georgia
No. 5 Georgia has bashed their way to the top of the SEC, literally and figuratively, in 2026, behind arguably the nation’s most explosive lineup.
The Bulldogs lead the country in home runs by a mile with 113, ahead Mercer and Oklahoma State at 86. Their power as been the battery that’s carried them to a 32-9 overall record and are 13-5 in conference play, an SEC-best. Six players have hit 12 or more big flies this season, while five starters are hitting over .300. They’ve scored 10 or more runs in 18 contests.
Just look at the Bulldogs’ 26-run outing, 11-run ninth inning against Arkansas on Saturday.
There aren’t many that can slow down this lineup, outside of attempting to out-hit them.
UGA has lost just one series this season, falling to Florida. They’ve collected crowns from teams like then-No. 4 Mississippi State, then-No. 16 Arkansas and then-No. 23 Mississippi State.
